Cancelled our room less than a month out for our trip on one of the busiest weekends in Charleston. I booked months ago at a great rate. Now we have no lodgings and all the prices are double and triple what we were paying. I suspect they did this to re-book the room at a much more expensive rate than what we were set to pay. They did not try to accommodate us in any other way. Very unfortunate situation

We booked a room at the Church Street Inn a few months ago and were so excited to visit. We are flying from Michigan for my husband's birthday. I got an email from Choice Hotels on Oct 30th confirming the details of our stay this weekend (11/4-11/6) that said "your stay is just around the corner, we look forward to seeing you!" I clicked the link in the email which took me here, to the google reviews. I noticed the most recent reviews were negative and mentioned that the hotel was closed! I called on Oct 31 and was told that I should cancel and they likely would not be open. I said that I would like to keep the reservation if at all possible since we are flying in on Friday and have nowhere else to stay. I called again 11/1 and was told they will be closed through Jan and they will refund our prepayment in a few business days. The hotel seemed nice and we booked it due to the great location, however, it is unacceptable that I had to call multiple times to find out that our reservation was canceled with 4 days notice. The hotel did not ever reach out to me to let me know. Thank you to the other reviewers for giving me the heads up to call and check on our reservation. I hope this review can help someone else! This is a big oversight on the hotel's part that I'm sure is letting down many visitors. We were lucky to secure a new reservation elsewhere at the last minute.

This hotel contacted me two days before my trip cancelling my reservation for “hurricane damage” we later found out it was a plumbing issue that they blamed on the hurricane. When we went by the hotel during our stay it was completely fine and many people who we told about the situation said there was no hurricane damages that could have caused them to close. That being said the hotel said they would reaccommodate us and have two hotel suggestions but when we called them they only gave us a refund and said we would have to find new lodging ourselves. Of course all the rates for other hotels were extremely high because it was two days out! This was extremely unprofessional and I would hope any business would value there customers more then church street inn did, but it’s now obvious this was a scam to get insurance money and they could care less about putting people out two days before there arrival!

My daughter is getting married in Charleston in 2 weeks; I have a block of rooms reserved for my out of town guests at The Church Street Inn for that weekend. I called the hotel today to confirm the number of guests booked only to find out the hotel is closed due to 'unforeseen circumstance' (damages from Hurricane Ian). I did not receive any notification from the hotel regarding the hotel closure; had I not called today, I, along with my wedding guests, would have arrived in Charleston to find out the hotel is closed and no rooms available. The hotel is extremely mismanaged; no communication with upcoming guests regarding hotel closure is inexcuseable.

They canceled the reservations, that we made in over 8 months ago, due to hurricane damage at the hotel. The cancellation was done last minute and we were on a cruise with no way of making new reservations. They made no effort to help with other accommodations at their other locations or any other hotels in the area. While hurricane damage is out of their control, the customer service they provided to us under the circumstances was very bad and inconsiderate. I would not recommend staying here for that reason.
